At the TU/e, we strongly believe that the success of our research is strongly linked to the quality of our research support. We believe is essential for researchers to work together with the best research support professionals.
This page outlines how Research Support is organized at TU/e and provides several examples. Details about all support services can be found at the research support information point on the TU/e intranet (only available for TU/e employees and students).
How is it organized?
At TU/e, we have professional first line support in the departments and institutes, with a solid second line of experts in central services. The second line offer specialized support to researchers throughout the whole research project chain in close cooperation with the TU/e departments and institutes. This support system is called the Research Support Network (RSN).
The research support network is organized in two tiers around the researcher.
First tier support typically is the first point of contact for researchers; they act as a linking pin, not as gatekeeper, and will be kept in the loop during the support process.
- Departmental Project Development Offices (PDOs) primarily focus on supporting research projects for their disciplines and guide researchers through the whole project chain. Their involvement is typically focused on proposal development or “pre-award” activities, but often goes beyond this where researchers need specific support.
- Institute Program managers (IPMs) at the institutes focus on starting/joining strategic, thematic and inter-departmental opportunities.
- PDOs and IPMs work together to provide seamless support to researchers.
Second tier support provides expert support to both researchers directly as well as to first tier staff. This includes specialists in the field of o.a. finance and control, legal support, privacy and security, knowledge security, research IT, open access, research data management, clinical trials, integrity and ethics, public relatlions and media, trainings and workshops, and personal and collaborative grants.

Research Support Office
A part of the research support is offered by the Research Support Office, a central group of research support professionals. Together with the support professionals in the departments, institutes and support services of TU/e, they form the research support network.
The Research Support Office is organized in 5 teams: Personal Grants, Collaborative Grants, Legal Support, Project Management, and Organization Support.
