RESEARCH PROFILE

Inês Pereira is an Assistant Professor in the Microsystems group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Her expertise encompasses biomaterials, micro and nanotechnology, microfabrication, sensors and actuators, soft microvalves, stimuli-responsive materials and microfluidics. Her research is dedicated to the advancement of wearable and implantable medical devices for healthcare applications, with a specific focus on enhancing diagnostics, disease prevention, and improving treatment outcomes.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Inês Pereira was born in 1994 in Viseu, Portugal. She graduated in 2015 from University of Beira Interior with a BSc in Biomedical Sciences, and then she obtained her MSc in Biomedical Materials and Devices from University of Aveiro in CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials. Her master’s thesis involved the design, fabrication and characterization of a composite polymeric membrane incorporating nanoparticles of calcium phosphate, zinc oxide and copper oxide, intended to be applied as a biocompatible, osteogenic and antibacterial coating material for dental implants. After finishing her master studies, Inês worked for one year as a research fellow at University of Coimbra in the Coimbra Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Translational Research (CIBIT) before moving to Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), where she started her PhD project at the Microsystems research section headed by prof.dr.ir. Jaap den Toonder in 2019. For her PhD, Inês developed innovative minimally invasive and smart glaucoma implants, delving into diverse research areas such as microfluidics, microfabrication, soft actuators, (magnetic) microvalves, and more. After obtaining her PhD degree cum laude in 2023, Inês assumed the role of Assistant Professor within the Microsystems group.
