As a graduate of the Master's program in Industrial Design, you are a unique, initiative-taking designer, entrepreneur or researcher. Our alumni are distinguished by their proactive, 'hands-on' attitude, where prototyping is an essential part of the design and research process. In addition, our studenten are trained to develop the professional skills they need in their future career in both the Bachelor's and Master's programs: reflection, goal setting, presentation, collaboration, and reporting.

After graduation, you are equipped to tackle any design challenge: whether it's researching and developing a new material, designing a system to enhance civic engagement, or giving a driver a sense of control in a self-driving car. The topics or domains may vary, but with the knowledge and skills you’ve acquired, you're not afraid to take on any design challenge. The industrial designer plays a central role in driving innovation: an engineer who brings together diverse disciplines such as emerging technologies, user insights, societal trends, data, and sustainability, and transforms technical breakthroughs into market-ready solutions.

Further education: PhD or EngD

During your master's program, you will be supervised by the academic staff. Perhaps this is sparking your interest in the research conducted within the department.

The department of Industrial Design offers the EngD program Designing Human-Interaction (HSI). In addition, there are often PhD positions within the department. Our international staff also has strong ties with universities and research institutes both in the Netherlands and abroad. The work of our researchers is well respected nationally and internationally.

Job Market

After graduating, you can start working in the R&D or design department of a large company or government institution, as a designer, design consultant, entrepreneur, UX designer, or design researcher. The Brainport region offers plenty of employment opportunities, and you will already encounter a number of employers during your studies or at networking events.

Because every Industrial Design graduate has their own profile, the jobs they end up in are also very diverse. Take a look at LinkedIn to what our alumni are sharing about this.
