Student Stories Master - Student Stories Master Applied Physics

"I’m unraveling the details of lightning"

Lightning is one of the most well-known plasma-related phenomena. Yet we do not know how to physically describe it. The difference in potential between the earth and the clouds is far from big enough to give rise to such a huge discharge as lightning. Since we live in such a fast and smart world, this discrepancy immediately drew my attention. I started this research in my bachelor and would love to continue it in my final master’s project. For my internship, I’m looking for physics with a social impact, such as helping to solve the energy problem in Indonesia.

Eindhoven is a very lively city. It feels nice and small but there is a lot to do. The same is true for the university. The program itself is interesting and gives you many ways to combine courses from different fields.
