Proof of financial means

Note: The information on this page applies to applications for the academic year 2026–2027 and is intended only for applicants with a non-EEA nationality. Students from EEA countries are not required to pay a guarantee fee to TU/e.

What is the EEA?

EA stands for the European Economic Area, which includes all EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. Although Switzerland is not part of the EEA, it is often treated similarly for tuition and admission purposes. If you do not hold the nationality of an EEA-country or Switzerland, you are considered a non-EEA student.

Who needs to pay this amount?

You must pay the proof of financial means if:

To apply for a residence permit, you must demonstrate to the IND (Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service) that you have sufficient financial means to support your studies and living expenses in the Netherlands.

Required amount

For 2026, the IND has set this amount at €13,600 per year, excluding tuition fees and visa application costs.

How to provide proof

1) Bank transfer to TU/e\ Transfer the full amount to the TU/e bank account using the payment instructions below.\ \ 2) Full-cost scholarship\ If you have a a full-cost scholarship that covers both tuition fees AND living expenses, you do not need to transfer the proof of financial means-amount. Instead, upload your scholarship letter once prompted.\ \ The scholarship letter must:

3) Partial scholarship\ If your scholarship does not fully cover both tuition fees and living expenses, you must transfer the remaining amount to TU/e.\ \ Example\ You receive a scholarship of €24,000.\ Your guarantee fee (Master's) is €22,000.\ The remaining €2,000 can be used toward your proof of financial means. You must then transfer €11,600 instead of €13,600.

Once you are prompted to pay the amount as proof of financial means, please follow the instructions below carefully to ensure your payment is processed correctly.\ \ To transfer the amount from a foreign bank account, use the following details on on your international bank transfer form:

These details often get lost during international transfers. Please explicitly ask your bank to include your full name and date of birth in the transfer details to ensure we can link the payment to your application
