Proof of financial means
Note: The information on this page applies to applications for the academic year 2026–2027 and is intended only for applicants with a non-EEA nationality. Students from EEA countries are not required to pay a guarantee fee to TU/e.
What is the EEA?
EA stands for the European Economic Area, which includes all EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. Although Switzerland is not part of the EEA, it is often treated similarly for tuition and admission purposes. If you do not hold the nationality of an EEA-country or Switzerland, you are considered a non-EEA student.
Who needs to pay this amount?
You must pay the proof of financial means if:
- You have a non-EEA nationality
- You have been admitted to a TU/e Bachelor's, Master's or Pre-master's program
- Your admission is based on a non-Dutch previous education
- TU/e applies for your residence permit
To apply for a residence permit, you must demonstrate to the IND (Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service) that you have sufficient financial means to support your studies and living expenses in the Netherlands.
Required amount
For 2026, the IND has set this amount at €13,600 per year, excluding tuition fees and visa application costs.
How to provide proof
1) Bank transfer to TU/e\ Transfer the full amount to the TU/e bank account using the payment instructions below.\ \ 2) Full-cost scholarship\ If you have a a full-cost scholarship that covers both tuition fees AND living expenses, you do not need to transfer the proof of financial means-amount. Instead, upload your scholarship letter once prompted.\ \ The scholarship letter must:
- Be in English
- Include:\ - Your full name\ - The scholarship name\ - The total amount awarded\ - The exact period covered (e.g. 01-09-2026 to 31-08-2027)
3) Partial scholarship\ If your scholarship does not fully cover both tuition fees and living expenses, you must transfer the remaining amount to TU/e.\ \ Example\ You receive a scholarship of €24,000.\ Your guarantee fee (Master's) is €22,000.\ The remaining €2,000 can be used toward your proof of financial means. You must then transfer €11,600 instead of €13,600.
Refund policy
- The full amount will be refunded after enrollment and after opening a Dutch bank account.
- Please note: it may take a few weeks before you can access the refunded amount, as you first need to open a Dutch bank account, share your account details with TU/e, and then we'll have to process the refund.
- If you decide not to enroll, the full amount will be refunded (minus any international transfer costs)
Important reminders
- TU/e will begin your visa and/or residence permit arrangements only after receiving:
- Full guarantee fee
- Proof of financial means
- Required visa documents (after being admitted, you will be prompted from April onwards)
- Transferring only the visa and/or residence permit fee is not sufficient to start the procedure.
- Please note: starting in April, you will receive instructions on how to submit the required visa documents and make the required payments.
How to paythe proof of fincancial means
Once you are prompted to pay the amount as proof of financial means, please follow the instructions below carefully to ensure your payment is processed correctly.\ \ To transfer the amount from a foreign bank account, use the following details on on your international bank transfer form:

- Beneficiary: Technische Universiteit Eindhoven(Please use this Dutch version of the TU/e name as this is registered at the bank)

- Reference details:\
- Your full name and date of birth (especially importantif someone else ismaking the payment)\ - Your student number
These details often get lost during international transfers. Please explicitly ask your bank to include your full name and date of birth in the transfer details to ensure we can link the payment to your application
Additional notes
- Ensure that thefull amount is received by TU/e.
- Any bank transfer fees must be paid in addition to the required amount. TU/e must not be charged for these costs.
- You may combine the guarantee fee and proof of financial means in one transaction to reduce transaction costs.
- It is NOT possible to pay the proof of financial means:\ - In cash\

- By banker's draft\
- By cheque\ - In installments
