## RESEARCH PROFILE

Felix Frey is an Assistant Professor in the Soft Matter and Biological Physics group within the Department of Applied Physics and Science Education at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Trained as a theoretical physicist, his primary area of research is theoretical biophysics and soft matter. Currently, he focuses on self-assembly, remodeling, and growth processes at fluid lipid membranes in biological cells, with the aim of developing a physical understanding of living matter. His work combines continuum modeling with coarse-grained computer simulations to address a broad range of problems, including membrane remodeling across the tree of life, protein self-assembly (e.g. clathrin-mediated endocytosis), virus and nanoparticle uptake, and membrane-cytoskeletal interactions. As many of the projects address fundamental biological questions, Felix works closely with experimental colleagues in biophysics, soft matter, cell biology, biomedical engineering, and chemical engineering. ## ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Felix received his PhD in Theoretical Biophysics (summa cum laude) from Heidelberg University in 2019. Following postdoctoral stays at TU Delft and at IST Austria near Vienna, he started his own group at Eindhoven University of Technology in 2026. His research has been funded by a fellowship from the NOMIS foundation and a Kavli Synergy Grant.
