RESEARCH PROFILE

Dr. Jun Hu is a Senior Member of ACM, currently an Associate Professor in Design Research on Pervasive Health, and the Scientific Director for the Engineering Doctorate program in Designing Human-System Interaction at the Department of Industrial Design (ID), Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), a Distinguished Adjunct Professor at Jiangnan University and a Guest Professor at Zhejiang University. He was the head of the Designed Intelligence of ID TU/e from 2015 to 2017. He is currently the chair of the working group “Aesthetics and empowerment” of IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) TC14 (Technical Committee on Entertainment Computing). He is the coordinator of the TU/e DESIS Lab in the DESIS Network (Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability). He serves on the editorial boards of several international journals, as an Editor-in-Chief for EAI Endorsed Transactions on Pervasive Health and Technology, as an associate editor for Behaviour & Information Technology and Entertainment Computing, and as an Editor for the International Journal of Arts and Technology. He has more than 360 peer-reviewed publications with an H-Index of 38 in conferences and journals in the fields of HCI, IoT, AI, industrial design, computer science, and design education.

Dr. Jun Hu designs with pervasive technology to promote health, well-being, and social connectedness. His interdisciplinary work spans interactive systems, AI-enhanced tools, and ambient interfaces, empowering individuals through data-driven self-care, biofeedback, and creative engagement across healthcare, education, and everyday life.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Dr. Jun Hu has a Ph.D. degree in Interaction Design and an Engineering Doctorate degree in User-system Interaction, both from TU/e. He also has a B.Sc degree in Mathematics and an M.Eng degree in Computer Science. He is a System Analyst and a Senior Programmer with qualifications from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China. From 2006 to 2007, he served as the Secretary-General for The Association of Chinese Scholars and Engineers in the Netherlands (VCWI) and from 2008 to 2009 as the Chairman. Since 2019, he has been the Chairman of the Foundation for Design Promotion in Europe and China. Since 2020, he has been a board member of the International Chinese Association of Computer Human Interaction (ICACHI) and, since 2024, a vice president.
