About CareerSet
CareerSet is an online platform that can provide instant feedback on your CV or cover letter.
It enables you to:
- Score and improve your CV via personalised, actionable feedback
- Target your CV to specific job descriptions, based on keywords and skills
- Enhance your cover letter for a specific job
Before using CareerSet, you should note that:
- This tool is designed to assess the broad content of your CV. Don't worry too much about the score you are given, you don't have to get 100%. Pay attention to the suggestions you are given which will help you make improvements, resulting in an increased score.
- We recommend you aim for a score of at least 70. You may then wish to see an adviser for support with targeting your CV at a particular role.
- CareerSet is particularly good for helping you develop a typical chronological CV. For alternative style CVs including skills-based or academic CV you may find it helpful to see our example CVs as a starting point. - CareerSet provides some CV templates which can be used as a starting point. To make your CV stand out you should adapt and personalise these according to your own situation

Access CareerSet
CareerSet is free to use for all University of Sheffield students and graduates.
Students can log in to CareerSet using their University of Sheffield email address. Simply enter your email address to receive an access link in your inbox.
Graduate signup
If you are a University of Sheffield graduate, you can still make use of CareerSet. Simply enter your details via our signup form and a member of staff will email you with your access code. Please allow 5 working days for us to process your request.
What next?
Once you have gained feedback from CareerSet, you may find it helpful to have your CV or cover letter reviewed by an Employability Adviser, particularly to ensure it is tailored to a specific role. You can see an adviser by attending a CV/LinkedIn Booster session or by booking a 1:1 appointment.
