Findings Overview and Suggested Improvements

What do students and staff appreciate about UZH catering services, and where would they like to see improvements? The 2025 cafeteria survey reveals a high and stable level of satisfaction, buoyed by improved operating processes and  outstanding staff performance.

The 2025 survey showed that people using the University of Zurich (UZH) catering facilities are overall satisfied with what’s on offer: overall satisfaction was 69 index points (on a scale from 0 to 100), the same as in the last survey in 2022. Students rated the offering more positively than staff, with 71 points compared to 66 points.

Update (New experiences) for your taste buds

At the start of the lecture period, there will bei a new rotating menu once a week in the Garden and Farm lines. This will replace the Monday No-Butcher offering.

Thanks to the availability of the team from the Butcher line, which pauses on that day, we can now offer more sophisticated recipes and special taste experiences.

Price Harmonization between the Zurich North Cantonal School Cafeteria and the UZH Irchel Cafeterias

We are pleased to announce that, effective 20 October 2025, the prices at the cafeteria of the Zurich North Cantonal School (Kantonsschule Zürich Nord, KZN) and the cafeterias of UZH at Irchel will be harmonized. This means that members of both KZN and UZH can benefit from the lower UZH prices at all food service locations on campus.

KZN teaching staff, employees, and students are kindly asked to present their KZN ID (issued by the Canton of Zurich, Department of Education), while members of UZH should show their UZH Card.

Lunch service at the KZN cafeteria (Y12-E) is available from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Between 1:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., the cafeteria is open as a study space, provided no KZN events are taking place. Any such events will be indicated on site.

As of January 2026, a new catering concept will be introduced with the integration of the KZN cafeteria into the UZH food services portfolio. Further details will follow in due course.

We would like to thank KZN, UZH, the ZFV cooperative, and the Department of Education of the Canton of Zurich for making this price harmonization possible.

Enjoy the expanded range of meal options at attractive UZH conditions – and bon appétit!

‘The price-performance ratio is unbeatable’ – A look behind the scenes with Patrik Beetz

Since June, Patrik Beetz has been managing director of the University of Zurich's Mensa dossier and thus the central interface between UZH and ZFV. In this interview, he talks about his culinary preferences (fish yes, rice pudding no), his first impressions of the cafeteria offerings, and exciting new additions such as the Fondue-Stübli at Irchel and the new Italian concept ‘Insieme.’

"No-Butcher" at UZH cafeterias

Starting from the Spring Semester 2025, UZH cafeterias will offer more vegetarian options on Mondays. The "Butcher" menu line will be transformed into "No-Butcher" on these days. This is one of several measures within the Strategic Project Decarb UZH Climate Neutrality 2030.\ UZH News on Cafeteria Menus and CO₂ Footprints\ Project Decarb UZH Climate Neutrality 2030
