Where could a Master of Data Science and Innovation take you? transcript

I had reached a standstill in my career as a software engineer, and I was ready for something more: to solve complex problems and shape what comes next.

As a woman in data science, I didn't just want to enter the field. I wanted to help lead it.

That's when I discovered the Master of Data Science and Innovation at UTS.

What struck me wasn't just the program, but the stories I heard from alumni — stories of transformation, of getting hands-on to drive meaningful change.

One of the things that really set the program apart was iLab. It's what makes the degree so unique.

In iLab, you work closely with industry partners on real data challenges they're facing. It felt like an internship built into the course — a chance to apply everything we were learning in real time with tangible impact.

The atmosphere at UTS is incredibly collaborative. It feels like everyone's voice matters. The facilities are designed to bring people together.

I always feel encouraged to step up, share ideas, and even present on larger stages.

One of the biggest surprises was how much I grew beyond technical skills. I developed soft skills like project and people management, and those have genuinely shaped who I am today.

Being surrounded by other women in the program was incredibly empowering. We shared ideas, supported each other, and pushed boundaries together. They inspired me to keep challenging myself and discover what I'm truly capable of.

The support from lecturers and tutors was really special. They genuinely cared about my success, and by the end of the programme, they felt more like coworkers who were invested in my growth.

The program didn't just prepare me for the future job market. It gave me the tools to make an impact and the confidence to know that I can.
