1. Purpose

University of Technology Sydney (referred to as UTS, we, us, and our) is committed to protecting privacy and personal information and being transparent about how we handle data.

We follow the requirements of the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW) and where applicable, the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We also take guidance from major international privacy frameworks. Our goal is to ensure that visitors to the UTS website understand what information is collected, how it is used, and when it may be disclosed.

Note: This notice applies to UTS managed websites and online services hosted under the uts.edu.au domain. It does not cover third-party or partner platforms that UTS may use to deliver events, webinars, surveys, or other services (for example, Zoom or Humanitix). Users should refer to the privacy notices of those platforms for information about how they handle personal data.

2. Collecting your information

We do not collect or solicit any personal information via the UTS website that might be unlawful, unnecessary, excessive or unrelated to the functions or activities of the university.

We use the personal information we collect as a result of your visit to the UTS website to:

UTS does not make decisions with legal or similar effects based solely on automated processing of personal information.

Information provided on online request form or emailed enquiry, will only be used for the purposes it was collected for as defined above or in any separate privacy notice provided to you at the point of collection.

b) When personal information may be disclosed

Personal information collected as a result of your visit to the UTS website may be shared with contracted service providers. Otherwise, information will only be disclosed where required or permitted by law, or with your consent.

c) Publishing personal information on the UTS website

UTS will only publish personal information on the UTS website if it has been collected for this purpose with your knowledge or if you have consented to the disclosure. When giving such consent you should be aware that information published on the UTS website is accessible to millions of users world-wide, that it will be indexed by search engines, captured in web archive programs, and that it may be copied and used by any web user. This means that once information is published on the UTS website, UTS has no control over its subsequent use and disclosure.

4. How your information is stored and retained

Information collected via the UTS website will be stored securely in UTS controlled and managed systems, including those hosted by service providers on our behalf under contract.
