## What you’ll study

This flexible, adaptable degree can be completed part or full-time, online, or in-person for the JD component. Within this program, you’ll undertake a number of core JD subjects to establish your fundamental knowledge of Australian law and its various applications. \

Your choice of Options and Legal Theory subjects in areas like jurisprudence, international law and environmental ethics will see you attain specialised knowledge. Through your Trade Mark Law and Practice stream, you’ll develop vital theoretical and practical capabilities in your future area of practice.

## Typical course program

You’ll be encouraged to acquire an in-depth understanding of the Australian legal system and how it relates to the protection of trademarks and the prevention of unfair trading. You'll explore patent rules and specifications and be prepared to apply reasoning, judgement and analysis to advise and negotiate issues of infringement, validity and compliance.

1. #### First year

   You’ll commence your studies by building your essential foundational understanding of the Law. You’ll cover subjects like ethics, criminal law and procedure, contracts, torts and Australian Constitutional Law.
2. #### Second year

   Your second year will see you enhance your legal understanding into areas like property, commercial, civil and international law. You’ll also learn about evidence, equity and trusts, giving you a holistic understanding of the role of Law in our modern society.

## Course highlights

## Industry accreditation

Students who undertake a Practical Legal Training (PLT) program, like the Graduate Certificate in Professional Legal Practice, are eligible for admission as a lawyer to the Supreme Court of NSW.

Subject to final board approval, where applicants have a requisite tertiary qualification as stipulated by the Trans-Tasman Intellectual Property Attorneys Board (TTIPAB), this course satisfies the knowledge requirements necessary for registration as a Trade Marks Attorney in Australia. Prospective students should check with the TTIPAB for specific subjects required to be completed for registration.
