Advance your engineering

The Master of Professional Engineering provides an opportunity for technical specialists and engineers who have completed either a three-year Bachelor of Technology or a non-accredited four-year Bachelor of Engineering to graduate with an Engineers Australia-accredited professional engineering qualification.

Choose a program of study that not only helps to deepen the body of knowledge acquired in your first degree but also gives you an opportunity to embark on a 12-week professional experience or equivalent.

If you have completed a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) accredited by Engineers Australia at the level of Professional Engineer, or an equivalent international qualification recognised under the Washington Accord, you should apply for the Master of Engineering or Master of Engineering (Extension).

What you'll study

This course is designed to incorporate an integrated approach to professional engineering practice through professional engineering subjects, major-specific subjects, an independent project and engineering practice stream.

The project component consists of a preparatory subject and a project (in the area of the major) which must be undertaken in successive sessions, typically the final three sessions of the course.

You can select two elective subjects from postgraduate programs offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology.

What sets this course apart is its integrated approach to professional engineering practice, combining professional engineering subjects, engineering discipline subjects, an independent project, and an engineering practice stream. You'll not only expand your existing knowledge but can also engage in a 12-week professional experience or equivalent to meet Engineers Australia's requirements.

You'll acquire advanced knowledge and practical skills, particularly through an independent graduate project in your selected major. This course is ideal if you're aiming to refine your abilities and attain an accredited professional qualification. Choose this path to become a more competent and sought-after engineering professional.

This course allows students to choose a program of study that not only helps to deepen the body of knowledge acquired in their first degree, but also gives them an opportunity to embark on a 12-week professional experience or equivalent (as required by Engineers Australia). It also provides a unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge and gain practical skills by undertaking an independent engineering graduate project in their chosen major. - ### Important dates

Scholarships for international students - ### Course duration

This course is offered on a two-year, full-time or four-year, part-time basis.

The course is made up of subjects that provide students with flexibility. Classes are usually held in standard mode (weekly attendance) or block mode (attend classes only two or three times during the session per subject). - ### Admission requirements

To be eligible for admission to this course, applicants must meet the following criteria.

Applicants must have the following qualifications in Engineering or Computer Science in an area relevant to the proposed major:

Applicants who do not meet the above pass-rate requirement will be considered if they have one of the following additional qualifications, taken post completion of study in a completed Australian bachelor's degree, or overseas equivalent, in Engineering at the Engineering technologist level or below, or Computer Science:

Applicants with a completed a Bachelor of Engineering that is accredited by Engineers Australia at the level of Professional Engineer should apply for the C04271 Master of Engineering or C04277 Master of Engineering (Extension).

Applicants who are seeking accreditation by Engineers Australia at the level of Professional Engineer but do not meet the criteria above should consider Undergraduate options such as C09066 Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)C09067 Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Diploma in Professional Engineering Practice.

Applicants who are not seeking accreditation should consider applying for C11238 Graduate Certificate in Engineering Studies, noting that this course is a not a pathway to C04309 Master of Professional Engineering.

Information for Masters by Research students: Government-funded scholarship places available

As a recipient of the Australian Government’s Research Training Program (RTP) Fees Offset Scholarship, you do not have to pay tuition fees for up to the maximum period of candidature. However, even with this scholarship, you should expect ongoing costs that aren’t covered, like travel, training, and professional development. These costs can vary for each person, so it’s important to plan accordingly. Additionally, scholarships are available to help with your living expenses.

Inherent requirements are academic and non-academic requirements that are essential for successfully completing a course at UTS. You can find the inherent requirements for your course via the inherent requirements directory. - ### Professional recognition

The Master of Professional Engineering, majoring in Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Cybersecurity Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, is fully accredited by Engineers Australia at the level of Professional Engineer, and is recognised internationally by signatories to the Washington Accord. The Electrical Energy Systems Engineering, Robotics, and Telecommunications and Electronics majors are provisionally accredited pending full accreditation and are expected to be eligible for full accreditation once a representative group of graduates has emerged. - ### Recognition of prior learning

Students may be eligible for up to a total of 24cp of subject exemptions based on recognition of prior learning (RPL) as follows:

Other/additional RPL may be granted via subject substitution to an alternative/advanced postgraduate subject in a similar field of study.

To be considered for recognition of prior learning, subjects must normally have been completed no more than ten years prior to the commencement of this course. - ### Important notes

Students who do not meet the admission requirements may be eligible for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Engineering Studies (C11238) or the Master of Engineering (C04271)
