To go on Global Exchange you will need to apply to, and be accepted by both UTS and the host university.

The Global Exchange application process begins one academic year before the exchange starts. For example, if you plan to start your Global Exchange in UTS Autumn 2025, you must apply in UTS Autumn 2024.

To start your application and understand the entire process, please register for the Global Exchange workflow on CareerHub. Here's a summary of the UTS Global Exchange application process:

  1. Check your eligibility for Global Exchange and when you can go during your degree.
  2. Register for the Global Exchange workflow on CareerHubby the registration deadline and complete the steps.
  3. Submit the application form (link provided in CareerHub)
  4. Receive the outcome of your application. If successful, we will allocate you to one of your preferred host universities.
  5. Complete the host university application process.
  6. Once your exchange is accepted by the host university, start preparing for your exchange!

Why don’t I always get the university I prefer?

There are some reasons why you won’t be able to go on exchange to the university you prefer. We’ll show you how the decision process works below:

  1. First of all, you’ll need to meet the entry requirements for your preferred university. If you do, continue reading. If not, you won’t be able to go to your preferred university.
  2. There is a limited number of spots available at each partner university. In the exchange agreements between UTS and the partner universities, we’ve agreed on the numbers of students that can go on exchange. If there are more students applying for a place than that there are available, we’ll assign the places in 3 rounds:
  3. New Colombo Plan scholars have first priority of being placed at their preferred university
  4. Students studying hard-to-place degrees (Architecture; Fashion; Integrated Product Design; Interior Architecture; International Studies; Psychology; Sport & Exercise; Visual Communication). Due to restrictions at UTS, or the partner university, there are limited opportunities for students studying these courses. To give these students also a chance to go on exchange, we prioritise them.
  5. The general round for all other students.

In all rounds, the applicants are ranked by WAM from high to low and prioritised in that order. If two applicants for the same partner university have an equal WAM, their personal statements will be assessed to help determine who would suit the partner university better.
