Why study Management?
Managing is not simply about making something efficient or more productive. At UTS, we see managing as part of an essential role in earning public trust in providing what's needed for the public good. And that's a completely different take on the conventional ways of thinking about management.
While you’ll learn practical skills what’s equally important is the theory underpinning those skills. One of the most important theories of practice to learn is valuing the role of work, understanding work from the shop floor to the back office, right through to the boardroom and not distinguishing one as being more important than the other.
Management is more than just, motivating people, it’s about creating a culture, a culture where people can thrive and with UTS it’s about equipping you with the relevant skills, attitudes and capabilities beyond just business for a vibrant career in many industries such as the not-for-profit sector, for the government, and agencies.
Management will grow your appreciation for not just the workplace, but the human condition. And the importance therefore, of what constitutes the role of management in shaping the future for us all.
Get inspired
Management is significant for all businesses as it brings together the various elements of a business to drive the organisation or department forward as an integrated unit.
It involves planning, delegating, monitoring, organising and budgeting for organisations to ensure they are responsive to a dynamic, competitive business environment.
The Management Discipline Group at UTS is one of the largest and most diverse groups of management academics in Australia.

Our major focus is equipping students with soft and transferable skills that have applicability across a range of different industry sectors.
Sometimes it's so easy to not know what you're taking away from university but coming out and stepping into the real world, as some people say, I feel like what we studied really translated to prove us to be so successful.
Well, because the courses are developed from industry demand, everything that you learn is then immediately applicable in whatever role you're either doing at the time or post graduation.
UTS has been really supportive in helping me to juggle my work life and also my life as a student.
In the holiday course I had a bad group assignment experience, and afterwards when I connected with my tutor on LinkedIn, she reached out and made sure I was okay. The tutors are always very supportive and nice.
The guest speakers that we had for the subjects were really insightful, and brought new ways of thinking about the subject.
Students will have opportunities to work on real-world projects and to network with industry professionals, and gain practical experience through internships.
That's ultimately my biggest standout is having a industry expert run us through real-world problem solving, building a solution, and then bringing it to market in an intensive program.
We embarked on this journey at UTS together and I think even though we're twins that brought us closer.
I met my fiancee at UTS in the Management degree.
Yeah, I've really enjoyed my time at UTS.
I looked at a lot of other courses, and now that I've been here, I wouldn't want to go anywhere else.
