As technology continues to revolutionise our way of life, crime is changing, too. If you want to be at the cutting edge of a field that's both a national and international strategic priority, UTS's dual Bachelor of Criminology Bachelor of Cybersecurity is for you.

Undertaking two qualifications, you'll get the skills to understand, measure and evaluate crime and its effects, all while building the IT capabilities you need to become an in-demand cybersecurity professional. As a graduate, you'll be ready to take on the challenge of cybercrime and play a critical role in protecting people from digital threats.

What you’ll study

You'll commence your studies with a range of core subjects from both your Criminology and Cybersecurity courses. This will see you build knowledge and competency in relevant aspects of IT, such as computing, web systems, networks and databases, as well as in critical areas of Criminology such as law, data analysis, research and policy.

Then, your choice of Criminology electives and Cybersecurity options will further your knowledge. In your final year, you'll bring together your knowledge to complete both an industry-based Criminology project and a Cybersecurity capstone studio.

The Bachelor of Criminology and Bachelor of Cybersecurity program equips students to tackle the evolving nature of crime, disorder and threats to public safety & security in the 21st century, particularly as it becomes more digital and transnational. It is ideal for those beginning their careers or seeking to enhance their skills to meet industry demands. The curriculum combines theory and practice through core subjects and curated specialisations reflecting an applied and translational approach to criminology whilst bridging the cybersecurity skills gap. The program develops develop robust cybersecurity skills, preparing students to address critical contemporary threats. Through the program a focus on data protection, cybercrime investigation, and crafting security solutions is provided, while considering ethical and legal aspects of risk management. Such an approach is crucial in light of the increasingly digital and transnational dimensions of crime, disorder and threats to public safety & security.

The program emphasizes applied learning from the real world. Students engage with industry-standard datasets, tools, problems, and cases ensuring they are work-ready. The course is campus based, but adopts a blended-learning approach to study, with asynchronous self-paced learning, synchronous online activities, collaborative learning, on-campus activities, and industry engagement through site visits and guest speakers.

Designed to meet current demands for graduate employment, this course balances theoretical insights with practical skills, relevant to crime prevention, detection, and understanding the multifaceted impacts of crime and cybersecurity. You will benefit from hands-on experience in specialised labs, equipped with advanced tools, ensuring you stay at the forefront of research and practice. Graduating from this ASC-certified course at UTS, you will be well-positioned for a future in criminology and cybersecurity.

The course combines studies in focussed areas with practical social science knowledge and skills needed for professions focused on crime prevention, detection, enforcement or the broader social implications and challenges of crime and cybersecurity and its digital, physical and social impact.

At UTS, having access to specialised cybersecurity labs with state-of-the-art tools, places students at the cutting edge of criminology and cybersecurity research, policy and practice. This UTS program is a certified undergraduate course by the ASC and provides a unique experience for future employment for graduates. - ### Important dates

By combining methods and insights from various disciplines, transdisciplinary learning often leads to breakthrough ideas and creative innovations that may not be possible within the confines of a single discipline.

If you find yourself rapt by the world of innovation – you can pair your core degree with a Diploma in Innovation, graduating with two qualifications in the same timeframe.

In both instances, you’ll work on a real-world challenge presented by an industry partner organisation – partners who often create career pathways for our graduates.

This course is offered on a four-year, full-time or eight year, part-time basis. - ### Admission requirements

Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level.

Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.

2026 Indicative tuition fees for government-supported domestic students

All offers for domestic undergraduate students are for Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP).This means the Australian Government contributes to your education costs, and you pay the remaining tuition fees, known as the student contribution. If eligible, you can defer payment through HECS-HELP, or you can choose to pay your fees upfront each session.

Standard majors: any two units of English.

Analytics and Research extended major: any two units of English and Extension Mathematics 1.

Digital Forensics extended major: any two units of English, Mathematics, Information Processes and Technology and/or Software Design and Development. - ### Professional recognition

Graduates are eligible to apply for Cybersecurity professional-level membership of the Australian Computer Society. - ### Recognition of prior learning

For those with backgrounds in law enforcement, defence and corrections, their prior learning and experience is recognised.
