Apply for a Design course using a portfolio of your work

The portfolio scheme allows non-current school leavers to apply for undergraduate Design courses using their portfolio rather than academic results.

If you’re worried your academic results may not get you a place in your course, consider applying through the scheme.

Key dates

• Portfolio applications for 2026 intake will open from 13 November 2025.
• Portfolio applications will close on 28 November 2025.

Am I eligible?

You’re eligible to apply if you:

• are a domestic applicant (an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or a holder of an Australian permanent resident or humanitarian visa)
• are not completing Year 12 in 2025
• meet UTS course requirements, and
• are preferencing an eligible UTS Design course.

How do I apply?

To apply for the scheme, you must:

1. submit a UAC application (opens an external site)
2. preference your chosen UTS Design course
3. prepare your portfolio in line with your course’s requirements. These requirements are listed below.
4. once the scheme opens, submit your application before the closing date.

How do I get an offer after submitting my portfolio?

The School of Design, Architecture and Building will review all submitted portfolios.

If your portfolio is suitable and you meet the eligibility requirements, you’ll receive an offer via UAC.

If you’re unsuccessful, you’ll still be considered for offers in later rounds (provided there are vacancies) based on any eligible academic study you have completed.
