Information Systems and Sustainability
The Bachelor of Information Systems, combined with the Bachelor of Sustainability and Environment, equips you to study complex systems, including enterprises, stakeholder services, and internal processes using data and IT-enabled services. You’ll gain sustainability knowledge across scientific, legal, and social domains, learning to harness information systems to drive sustainable change in business, government, health, and more. Industry and community projects help consolidate knowledge and apply creative solutions. This degree prepares you for leadership roles, driving innovation and sustainability across diverse sectors.

The Sustainability and Environment component of 96 credit points comprises 6 core subjects (42 credit points), and 54 credit points in elective choices spanning subjects related to Science (6 credit points), Governance and Policy; Society and Culture; Engineering; Science and Environment (48 credit points). Course description
The future is undoubtedly a digital world and in the Bachelor of Information Systems you will study complex systems such as enterprises, their services for different stakeholders (customers/patients/citizens/organisations), and their internal processes conducted by people using data, information and IT-enabled services. Combined with the Bachelor of Sustainability and Environment, you will build your knowledge of sustainability as a scientific, legal and social domain. You will learn how to harness the transformative power of information systems to drive sustainable and resilient environmental, economic and social change in business, government, community, health, non-government organisations and more.
Excursions and studios with industry and community partners in sustainability and environment core subjects provide opportunities for you to consolidate knowledge, apply new skills to creative solutions and learn through experience.
This combined degree is ideal if you are passionate about systems and sustainability, and want to make a significant impact on the world by creating sustainable solutions. As a graduate of this program you will be well equipped to take on leadership roles in a variety of sectors, driving innovation and change for a better future. - ### Important dates

If you find yourself rapt by the world of innovation – you can pair your core degree with a Diploma in Innovation, graduating with two qualifications in the same timeframe.
In both instances, you’ll work on a real-world challenge presented by an industry partner organisation – partners who often create career pathways for our graduates.

Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level.
Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.

2026 Indicative tuition fees for government-supported domestic students
All offers for domestic undergraduate students are for Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP).This means the Australian Government contributes to your education costs, and you pay the remaining tuition fees, known as the student contribution. If eligible, you can defer payment through HECS-HELP, or you can choose to pay your fees upfront each session.

Inherent requirements
Inherent requirements are academic and non-academic requirements that are essential for successfully completing a course at UTS. You can find the inherent requirements for your course via the inherent requirements directory. - ### Assumed knowledge
HSC Mathematics Advanced and any two units of English.
Mathematics Extension 1 and English Advanced are recommended. - ### Professional recognition - ### Recognition of prior learning
Students who have completed equivalent subjects at a recognised tertiary education institution may be eligible for recognition of prior learning (RPL) if the subjects completed are deemed by the Faculty to be equivalent to subjects in the course. Established agreements for RPL with external tertiary institutions are outlined in the Recognition of prior learning tool.
To be considered for recognition of prior learning, subjects must normally have been completed no more than ten years prior to the commencement of this course. Limits apply to the number of credit points of RPL that can be granted.
