A number of policies and guidelines relate to the use of IT systems at UTS.

Provision and use of IT

UTS communications networks and computing devices are provided for teaching, learning, research, professional development and administration. The Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources Policy informs all users of the university's IT resources of their rights and responsibilities. It is consistent with the provision of an environment that respects freedom of inquiry and expression, privacy and confidentiality, the law and due process.

Copying and/or downloading of copyrighted materials may be illegal. Copyright advice outlines the responsibilities and procedures that apply when using non-UTS materials for study, research, teaching and administrative purposes.

Publishing on the UTS website

Content published on the UTS website must support and reflect the UTS 2030 strategy. The Website Policy manages the integrity of UTS's online content so as to ensure that the information is both accurate and complies with relevant legal requirements.

UTS also has social media guidelines for the UTS community to follow.

Information security

UTS acknowledges an obligation to ensure appropriate security for all IT data, equipment and processes in its domain of ownership and control. Every member of the university shares this obligation. The Information Security Policy is an overall statement of IT security principles for the university.

IT security awareness and best practice

UTS encourages all staff and students to adopt best practice when considering security relating to IT services and facilities. Information on security awareness and best practice regarding passwords, data removal, spam control, phishing and anti-virus software is available through ThinkSecurely.
