## Postgraduate science foundation

The course is a four-subject qualification that draws on the world-class curriculum of the Master of Science. It equips you with both professional and discipline-specific expertise without the commitment of a longer degree. This qualification has been designed for those taking the first steps into postgraduate science, those looking for a rigorous professional development opportunity in an existing scientific career, or those seeking an alternative entry pathway into the masters degree.

## What you’ll study

The course requires 24 credit points of study, with 12 credit points chosen from the professional stream subjects and 12 credit points from a choice of specified science subjects.

The Graduate Certificate in Science is comprised of four subjects. You choose two electives in your preferred scientific discipline and complete two professional subjects designed to prepare you for professional scientific practice.

  This course is tailored for newcomers to postgraduate science, professionals seeking to enhance their expertise, or individuals aiming for a pathway to the UTS Master of Science or Master of Science (Extension).

  Opt for this course to gain specialised knowledge and professional skills in a short timeframe, with the opportunity to transition into a full Master's programme.

  What sets this course apart is the blend of discipline-specific electives and professional practice subjects, ensuring a well-rounded scientific education.

  You will acquire advanced understanding in your chosen science field and practical skills for scientific careers.

  Learning involves a mix of electives and professional subjects, with teaching methods focused on real-world application.

  The course is offered on a one-session, full-time or one-year, part-time basis.
- ### Admission requirements

  To be eligible for admission to this course, applicants must meet the following criteria.\
  \
  Applicants must have one of the following:

  - Completed Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent, in a related field of study

  OR

  - Completed Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent in any field of study AND 3 years relevant science-related professional work experience

  **Supporting documentation to be submitted with the application**

  For applicants without a qualification in a relevant discipline:

  - Curriculum Vitae
  - Information regarding education background, such as evidence of completion of an Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent
  - Statement of service

  **Related fields of study:**

  Mathematical Sciences, Physics, Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Microbiology, Human Biology, Medical Science, Forensic Science, Food Science and Biotechnology, Laboratory Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Fisheries Studies, Environmental Studies, General Medicine, Pathology, Radiology, Radiography

  Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.

  IELTS Academic: overall 6.5, writing 6.0
  TOEFL iBT: overall 79, writing 21
  UTS College AE5: Pass

- ### Domestic course fees

  **2026 Indicative tuition fees for domestic students**

  As a postgraduate student, you'll be responsible for covering your own tuition fees.

  **2026 Tuition Fee**

  - **Indicative first-year tuition fee:** $17,228.00
  - **Indicative total tuition fee:**  $17,228.00

  You can choose to pay your fees upfront per session, or if you’re eligible, you can defer them using a government FEE-HELP loan. This loan helps you cover all or part of your tuition fees. Keep in mind that applications for this loan are specific to each course.

  **Additional Costs**

  Your tuition fees do not include:

  - The Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF), which supports student services and activities. If eligible, you can defer this fee using SA-HELP.
  - Textbooks, materials, and other course-related costs.
  - Any applicable payment processing fees (e.g., credit card surcharges).

  **Important Information**

  - Fees are shown in Australian Dollars (AUD).
  - The indicative tuition fees above are based on full-time study (1 year = 48 credit points).
  - Your actual fees depend on the year you enrol, your study load and the subjects you choose. Some subjects fall into different student contribution bands.
  - You can calculate your student contribution based on the amounts listed in the student contribution table

  **Alumni Advantage Program**

  As a UTS graduate, you can enjoy a 10% discount on your course fees. Just apply for the course you're interested in, and if you're accepted, the discount will automatically be applied to your enrolment invoice.   **Information for Masters by Research students:** **Government-funded scholarship places available**

  As a recipient of the Australian Government’s Research Training Program (RTP) Fees Offset Scholarship, you do not have to pay tuition fees for up to the maximum period of candidature. However, even with this scholarship, you should expect ongoing costs that aren’t covered, like travel, training, and professional development. These costs can vary for each person, so it’s important to plan accordingly. Additionally, scholarships are available to help with your living expenses.

  **Important details:** The RTP Fees Offset Scholarship covers your tuition fees, but please note that it doesn’t include additional costs related to studying or conducting research.
