For over 40 years, our Women in Engineering and IT (WiEIT) program has been empowering the next generation of engineers and IT professionals to excel in their chosen field.

I think the main thing that motivated me to pursue IT is the fact that I hadn't really had much exposure to it.  I was just really curious about what else there was, especially at uni.

I was always good at science, and I was just interested in learning how things work. I did the Lucy Mentoring Programme. I got my internship because of an event at UTS. UTS has empowered me so much – so many opportunities that I don't think I would have gotten at any other uni.

There are a lot of ways that UTS has broken down barriers for women studying engineering and IT, but I think one of the most important things is being able to see women in leadership that you can resonate with so that you can visualise yourself in a similar position if that's what your goal is.

What's really exciting about working in the field is that it gives me the opportunity to really get into real world problem solving and for me that's really exciting. I feel that I'm encouraged to excel and to reach my best potential regardless of my gender or cultural other identities.

As a lecturer, I hope my work and my practise as an academic will inspire the women in my class to expand their perspective on what it means to be an engineer. For women out there considering a STEM field as a career, it is rewarding. You're always growing.

Engineers are the ones who make the world go around, and it's a really great profession. I think you're really putting yourself at the forefront of innovation and real-world problem solving. You're the one who are going to make the next changes in the world, so get into it.
