Professional engineering pathway.
This course qualifies those who apply a body of knowledge in a range of contexts to undertake professional work and provides a pathway for further learning in engineering. If you have a bachelor degree in a non-cognate engineering field, you can apply to this course. All applications are assessed individually and the course structure is tailor-made based on the basic qualifications that you possess. If you do not have a degree but have a TAFE diploma or equivalent qualification in engineering and significant related work experience you may also considered.

You are required to complete 24 credit points, comprising professional engineering (6 credit points), review (12 credit points), and an elective (6 credit points). Program details vary according to your interests and are determined prior to enrolment as well as in consultation with, and with the approval of, an academic adviser.

Course description
This course is targeted at professionals with a non-cognate engineering bachelor's degree or those with a TAFE diploma and relevant experience. Choose this course to broaden your professional scope. Its bespoke structure considers your existing qualifications, ensuring a tailored academic journey.
What sets this course apart is its individualised approach to learning. You'll acquire a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles applicable to a variety of professional contexts.
Expect an interactive learning experience through a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, facilitated by industry experts. This course equips you with the skills to excel in your field.
This course creates a pathway for students from a different engineering background to explore their potential to undertake postgraduate studies in engineering. Once students complete the course, individual assessment is undertaken to articulate either 12, 18 or 24 credit points towards a master's course. - ### Important dates

Scholarships for domestic students
Scholarships for international students - ### Course duration
This course is offered on a six-month, full-time or one-year, part-time basis.
The course is tailored to individual student needs and comprises subjects that enable students to build their knowledge base in engineering. Classes are usually held in a standard mode (weekly attendance) or in block mode (attend classes only two or three times during the session per subject). - ### Admission requirements
To be eligible for admission to this course, applicants must meet the following criteria.
Applicants must have one of the following qualifications in an engineering field not related to the specialisation the applicant is applying for in this course
- Completed Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent.
OR
- Completed Australian associate degree or advanced diploma (AQF 6), or overseas equivalent AND A minimum of 2 years full-time, or equivalent part-time, relevant post-secondary professional work experience.
OR
- Completed Australian diploma (AQF 5) or New Zealand technical and vocational NQF Levels 5-7, or other overseas equivalent AND A minimum of 3 years full-time, or equivalent part-time, relevant post-secondary professional work experience.
Supporting documentation to be submitted with the application
For applicants who need to demonstrate professional work experience:
- Curriculum VitaeAND Statement of service in one of the following formats:
- A 'Statement of Service' provided by the employer
- A completed 'UTS statement of service' signed by the employer
- A statutorydeclarationconfirming professional work experience (for Australian Residents only)
- An official letter from the applicant's accountant or solicitor on their company letterhead confirming the applicant's professional work experience or engagement with the business, duration of operations, and the nature of the business
- A business certificate of registration in original language and English (e.g. provision of ASIC documentation or ABN or similar documentation for Australian Businesses)
Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.

2026 Indicative tuition fees for domestic students
As a postgraduate student, you'll be responsible for covering your own tuition fees.
2026 Tuition Fee
- Indicative first-year tuition fee: $18,335.00
- Indicative total tuition fee: $18,335.00
You can choose to pay your fees upfront per session, or if you’re eligible, you can defer them using a government FEE-HELP loan. This loan helps you cover all or part of your tuition fees. Keep in mind that applications for this loan are specific to each course.
Additional Costs
Your tuition fees do not include:
- The Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF), which supports student services and activities. If eligible, you can defer this fee using SA-HELP.
- Textbooks, materials, and other course-related costs.
- Any applicable payment processing fees (e.g., credit card surcharges).

As a recipient of the Australian Government’s Research Training Program (RTP) Fees Offset Scholarship, you do not have to pay tuition fees for up to the maximum period of candidature. However, even with this scholarship, you should expect ongoing costs that aren’t covered, like travel, training, and professional development. These costs can vary for each person, so it’s important to plan accordingly. Additionally, scholarships are available to help with your living expenses.
