A census date is set by UTS for each session in accordance with Commonwealth legislation (HESA 2003). Every subject has its own census date based on the session in which it is taught.
The census date is the date on which the following important things happen:
- you become financially liable for any subjects in which you are enrolled,
- it's the final day you can withdraw from a subject without incurring:
- financial liability, and
- academic penalty,
- you incur a HELP debt for any subjects for which you are eligible for a HELP loan and have not made an upfront payment,
- it's the final day for Commonwealth supported students, and students requesting Commonwealth assistance can:
- submit appropriate Commonwealth assistance forms, and
- provide their tax file number (TFN) if you intend to defer your fees,
- it's the final day the UTS is allowed to accept upfront payments of Commonwealth supported places (CSP) student contributions, however earlier deadlines for payment may apply - see due dates.
If you’re feeling unsure of a subject choice, or your work, life or family commitments are getting on top of you and you don’t feel like you can continue with your current number of subjects, get in touch with your Student Centre or UTS Student Services to get advice and information about your options.
