- Join the ranks of one of the most respected journalism programs in the country, led by discipline head Professor Monica Attard.
- Thanks to our practical approach to learning, every semester you'll be producing stories, reports and multimedia content that will form your professional portfolio. You'll also have the opportunity to publish and broadcast your work before you graduate in various student and community publications such as U:Mag, Vertigo and 2SER-FM radio.
- All UTS Journalism students are invited to join Central News, a dedicated multi-platform news service based at UTS. At Central News, you'll put your studies into practice by producing text, audio and video stories ranging from breaking news to interactive features. You'll also receive one-on-one mentoring and support from Journalism Lecturer and Multimedia Editor Martin Newman.
- Benefit from our strong international links and exchange opportunities. As a journalism student, you can undertake a Global Exchange to a partner university or spend a whole year abroad with a combined degree in International Studies.
- As a UTS student, you can access the Women in Media and Walkley Foundation networks, which provide professional development programs and networking opportunities. As a graduate, you'll be eligible to apply for professional-level membership of the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA).
- Expand your career opportunities by adding a second major to your degree. Options include Public Communication, Creative Writing, Digital and Social Media or Social and Political Sciences. An Honours degree is also available for outstanding students who want to prepare for higher degree research.

Does the Schools Recommendation Scheme apply to Communications courses?
Yes, we participate in the Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS) and offer several other entry schemes. \ \ Visit Schools Recommendation Scheme for more information. - ### Can I transfer to UTS from a different university?
Yes, although you will need to apply. Application information is available for domestic applicants and international applicants.
If you transfer to UTS, you may be able to receive credit towards your new course based on your previous study through recognition of prior learning (RPL). - ### Can I defer my study?
Whether you can defer depends on several factors. Some courses do not allow you to defer, and you cannot defer if you commence your course in the Spring or Summer session.
Visit deferring an offer for more information. - ### Is it possible to study part time?
Domestic applicants can study part time by enrolling in a less than full-time study load. Visit study load for more information.
If you’re an international student on a student visa, you must maintain a full-time study load. If you want to study part time, apply for permission to reduce your study load. - ### Is PLT offered online or on campus?
From 2026 onwards, PLT will consist of a blended course with:
- Compulsory on-campus workshops, typically in intensive blocks, including assessments
- Online learning components (readings, discussion board).
\ It will not be entirely online due to accreditation requirements. - ### Can I apply for a course without an ATAR/IB as a domestic applicant?
You can still apply for UTS without an ATAR/IB. \ \ Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible to apply using an admissions pathway. \ \ If you have previous study or work experience, this may be considered in your application and you may be eligible for credit through recognition of prior learning (RPL). - ### Can I register for a tour of the UTS campus?
Yes, UTS runs free campus tours throughout the year.
