- ### Course description

According to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestries, Australia has an international reputation as being a producer of modern, safe, reliable and sustainable food. In Australia, the food industry represents around 20% of domestic manufacturing sales and service income. With the Bachelor of Food Science and Technology Bachelor of Business, students develop the scientific knowledge and business expertise to make their mark on this burgeoning field.

Course content combines food science and biotechnology-led innovation with the study of fundamental business subjects and specialist business majors. By the end of their studies, graduates are ready to transform global food production practices and the vibrant food technology economy that underpins them.

  **Why UTS Science?**

UTS Science, one of Australia's leading university science faculties, is committed to scientific advancement that creates a more sustainable world. When students study with UTS, they join a university that delivers global impact in STEM education and research and a faculty that produces scientists with the power to transform the profession.

  **Course features**

  - Complete a series of **common core subjects** that underpin all undergraduate UTS Science degrees. [Design, Data, and Decisions](https://handbook.uts.edu.au/subject/current/33116) and [Scientific Perspectives for Global Issues](https://handbook.uts.edu.au/subject/current/60006) are designed to equip students with a toolkit of technical and workplace skills, preparing them to thrive both at and after uni.
  - **Food Science and Technology** subjects emphasise the science behind food products and their development, including specialist food technology subjects and related learning in biochemistry, biotechnology and biobusiness. A final-year capstone project challenges students to formulate and develop a novel food product. Free electives include opportunities for international exchange, professional internships or subjects from UTS Science, Law, and Design, Architecture and Building.
  - **Business** subjects include the study of fundamental business theory and practice, plus specialist learning in one or more specialist disciplines. Students can choose majors, sub-majors and electives in Accounting, Advertising and Marketing Communications, Business Data Analytics, Business Law, Economics, Finance, Human Resource Management, Information Technology, International Business, Management. Major extensions are also available in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management and Marketing.
- ### Important dates

Find out more about [application dates relating to this course](https://www.uts.edu.au/for-students/admissions-entry/application-dates)
- ### Year 12 adjustment factor scheme

If you perform highly in your Year 12 subjects, your selection rank may be boosted by the [Year 12 subject scheme](https://www.uts.edu.au/for-students/admissions-entry/entry-schemes/year-12-subject-scheme).

The scheme, which is automatically applied, awards selection rank adjustments to your application based on your marks in subjects that are relevant to the courses you have applied to.
- ### ATAR and selection ranks

Your Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is a score between 0.00 and 99.95. It shows you how you rank compared to all the students in your year group in New South Wales. A selection rank combines your ATAR with any other adjustment points that make up your overall university entrance score. Your selection rank may differ from university to university, depending on the adjustment points granted to you at each institution.

  [Scholarships for international students](https://www.uts.edu.au/for-students/admissions-entry/scholarships/international)
- ### Transdisciplinary Electives at UTS

Employers tell us the skills our graduates acquire from undertaking a [Transdisciplinary Elective](https://www.uts.edu.au/for-students/transdisciplinary-innovation/transdisciplinary-electives) sets them apart from the crowd. That’s why we have embedded this program into every undergraduate degree.

All you need to do is choose the Elective that inspires you the most.

Transdisciplinary Electives integrate knowledge from multiple disciplines, allowing you to approach complex problems from a range of perspectives.

By combining methods and insights from various disciplines, transdisciplinary learning often leads to breakthrough ideas and creative innovations that may not be possible within the confines of a single discipline.

If you find yourself rapt by the world of innovation – you can pair your core degree with a [Diploma in Innovation](https://www.uts.edu.au/for-students/transdisciplinary-innovation), graduating with two qualifications in the same timeframe.

In both instances, you’ll work on a real-world challenge presented by an [industry partner](https://www.uts.edu.au/about/faculties/transdisciplinary-school/partnerships/how-get-involved/project-based-engagements/industry-innovation-project) organisation – partners who often create career pathways for our graduates.

\* Excludes students concurrently enrolled in the Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation.
- ### Course duration

Students can complete the course over four years of full-time or eight years of part-time study. Part-time students are required to attend some classes in daytime hours.
- ### Admission requirements
