Architecture and innovation

The Bachelor of Design in Architecture is the first of two degrees needed to become an architect.

Students wishing to qualify for professional recognition as an architect must also complete the Master of Architecture. UTS architecture courses provide the skills and knowledge necessary to practise in the architectural profession and to be a future leader in the design of the built environment.

Taking a transdisciplinary approach, the Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation utilises multiple perspectives from diverse fields, integrating a range of industry experiences, real projects and self-initiated proposals.

Part of the Faculty of Design and Society and Transdisciplinary School.

0:03\ I chose to study both the Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Design in Architecture at UTS because I'm passionate about creating sustainable, innovative and functional spaces that drive lasting, meaningful change.

\ 0:16\ Studying at UTS while immersed in the heart of Sydney provided daily exposure to a vibrant urban environment rich in culture and direct industry connections.

\ 0:26\ One of the most memorable moments was early in my first semester when a tutor's passion completely transformed my perspective on architecture.

\ 0:33\ Their energy inspired me to see design not just as creating buildings, but as a powerful tool for driving meaningful systemic change.

\ 0:42\ My time at UTS fundamentally shaped my perspective on my future career by teaching me that adaptability is essential to navigating complex design challenges.

\ 0:52\ I would highly recommend the UTS Bachelor of Design in Architecture and Master of Architecture to anyone who values a rigorous blend of concept, critique, and creativity.

\ 1:04\ Studying a Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture at UTS help me to get my first industry job.

\ 1:11\ It also provided me with a good portfolio of work to use for the future.

\ 1:14\ I believe that the best way to study architecture is a mix of technical understanding and excellent visual communication to convey your ideas and experience of the real world with industry partners.

\ 1:25\ My time at UTS definitely helped me build these skills to help me land my first role in the industry after graduating.

\ 1:31\ Overall, starting at UTS is an enjoyable experience that becomes unforgettable if you take on everything that's on offer.

\ 1:38\ I am a registered Architect in NSW with over five years experience in the architecture sector.

\ 1:45\ My decision to study at UTS was influenced by their distinctive approach compared to other universities, from innovative educational models to unique opportunities such as international travel studios and fostering a strong supportive architecture community that encourages growth, individuality and excellence.

\ 2:05\ During my architectural degree, having my work showcased at end of year exhibitions and presented at the NSW Student Architecture Awards open doors to connect with industry partners and collaborate closely with tutors in their own practices.

\ 2:21\ UTS is a leader in architectural education with a forward thinking approach that challenges conventional ideas.

\ 2:27\ My experience at UTS instilled in me empathy, focus, and a deep drive to create architecture that makes a meaningful impact through design.

“The whole study work ethic was what I needed. Now when you work in your career you carry that with you forever.”

Samuel Tsang

Bachelor of Design in Architecture

“The impact that BCII had on me, it changed completely the way that I see the world. And it made me evolve as a person in a professional and personal sense.”

Chelsea Baker

Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation

“You’ll always learn how to properly draw a concrete slab or design a wall penetration, but UTS teaches you to consider the message behind the design. That’s what sets a great architect apart.”

Will Snell

Bachelor of Design in Architecture Master of Architecture

“I feel that people become caught up in the repetition and monotony of their work, and cannot think innovatively or progress. This is why I love BCII: to be constantly reminded that you must ‘think different’ in order to excel creatively within any field.”

Olivia Kirk

Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation

“Another great opportunity to immerse myself personally and professionally was during the recent Barcelona and Girona, Spain Global Study Tour. These models, contexts and ideas will be tools that I can draw on for future local open space planning, which is one challenge of the architecture profession today.”

Katherine Turk
