Celia Salmon: Taking the road less traveled

Celia Salmon, Alumna, Major: Animal Science with Pre-Veterinary Medicine focus

“Growing up the daughter of a dairy veterinarian, I spent a lot of time riding with my dad when my daycare would shut down during summer. My mother also works in research and development for an animal health company. So when I went to Michigan State University, it made sense that I would major in animal science and pre-veterinary medicine. I did all the work to become a vet, except apply to vet school. Following graduation, I became the American Royal Association World Series of Barbecue contest intern. It was my involvement in AFA and interning with an agriculture non-profit that solidified my career path to something other than veterinary medicine. I still use my interest in veterinary medicine in my current role as a marketer on the US Poultry marketing team at Elanco Animal Health.
