Have you ever thought that your choice in major will dictate your future career options? Or that you are the only one who is unsure about your major choice? You’re not alone! Most Spartans change their major at least one time during their undergraduate studies, and we know that employers and graduate schools in most industries care more about your experiences than a specific major of study. With so many majors to choose from, it can be hard to decide which one is right for you. Check out the tips and resources below to get started:

What Can I Do With This Major?

Are you trying to decide on a major? Do you have a major, but are wondering what career opportunities it presents? This resource will help to answer many of your questions as well as give you strategies to be a top candidate in your field.

Focus 2

Focus 2 is an online self-guided program designed to help you explore majors and careers.  Assessments are available to help you examine your personality, skills, interests, work values, preferences and competencies. This tool provides a wealth of information about occupations and related majors here at Michigan State. Create a career and education plan and save it all in your own online portfolio. We recommend making an appointment with a career advisor to discuss your results and how to use the information you’ve gathered. Get access to Focus 2 here.

Career Outcomes

Every year, the Career Services Network collects information about the post-graduate plans of MSU students who received a bachelor’s degree during the spring and summer semesters. The Career Outcomes page shows you what graduating seniors from each major have gone on to do. It is a great place to find a sampling of employers, and names of graduate/professional schools.
