# Joint Doctoral Program

The Joint Doctoral Program (JDP) at IITM is a unique opportunity for PhD scholars to gain substantial research exposure and enhance their thesis work by providing an opportunity to collaborate with any of our 19 partner institutes and universities.

## About

Under the program, IITM PhD scholars can conduct research work for a
duration of 12 to 18 months with a host faculty in one of the partner
institutes. Scholars will have access to cutting-edge research facilities
and resources, as well as the opportunity to work on research projects that
are at the forefront of their field.

The JDP also encourages scholars to present their work at international
conferences and publish research papers in top-tier academic journals, thus
providing them with a global platform to showcase their research.

- Two/ Joint Diplomas: Successful graduates from this program will receive
  two diplomas, each reflecting the collaborative nature of their degree or
  one diploma with coat of arms of the partnering institution mentioning the
  collaboration.

## Eligibility

- Educational Qualifications: The applicant must possess a Master's degree
  (or equivalent) from a recognized university or institution in a relevant
  field of study.
- Coursework Requirement: The candidate must have successfully completed all
  coursework requirements mandated by their home university before being
  considered for enrollment as a Joint Doctoral student.
- Comprehensive Viva: The candidate must have successfully completed the
  comprehensive viva (or equivalent qualifying examination) at their home
  institute before applying for admission to the Joint Doctoral Program.
- CGPA requirement: The student must have a GPA of 8.5/10 or above from a
  Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. Those students with GPA less
  than 8.5/10 in Bachelor’s or Master’s degree must secure a
  minimum GPA of 8.5 in the first year of their PhD program in order to be
  eligible.
- Statement of Purpose: Candidates should submit a well-articulated
  statement of purpose outlining their academic and research goals, reasons
  for pursuing the Joint Doctoral Program, and their motivation to
  collaborate across institutions.
- Approval and Invitation: a). Candidates must obtain written approval from
  their home guide (supervisor) endorsing their participation in the Joint
  Doctoral Program. b). A formal endorsement from the Doctoral committee
  members and the Head of the Department (HoD) at the home institute is
  required. c). Additionally, candidates should secure an official
  invitation from the prospective professor or research advisor at the host
  institute, expressing their willingness to support the candidate's
  research during the Joint Doctoral Program.
- Interview (if applicable): Shortlisted candidates may be required to
  attend an interview, either in person or through virtual means, to further
  assess their research interests, academic preparedness, and alignment with
  the program's objectives.
- Fulfillment of Specific Program Requirements: Candidates should review and
  fulfill any specific eligibility criteria or prerequisites outlined by
  each participating institution.

Yes, UG students can apply for research work.

Can I apply for research work without an acceptance letter from IITM professor?

No, you can apply for research work only after an IITM faculty accepts to be your guide.
