If you already hold a master’s degree – or if you are expected to complete one before the start of the programme you are applying for – your admission to DTU is restricted under the Master’s Degree Rule.

## What does the Master’s Degree Rule mean for you?

If you have a master’s degree:

- You can only be admitted if there are vacant places in the programme you apply for.
- This means that you will be placed at the back of the queue compared to applicants who do not already hold a master’s degree.

The Master’s Degree Rule applies to both Danish and foreign master’s degrees.

## Possibility of exemption

In special cases, you may apply for an exemption from the Master’s Degree Rule.\
\
You may apply for an exemption if **exceptional circumstances** prevent you from using your existing master’s degree in the labour market.

### How to apply for an exemption

If you wish to apply for an exemption:

1. First submit your application for admission.
2. Then contact the Master’s Admissions Office as soon as possible at: [kandidatopt@adm.dtu.dk](mailto:kandidatopt@adm.dtu.dk)

If an exemption is granted, your application will be assessed on equal terms with other qualified applicants.
