No adviser knows all the answers to students’ questions and what kinds of support are available that address their issues. Hence it is important to utilize campus resources in supporting students. Make use of the rapport that you have built with your advisees and make referrals as needed.\
Before Referral
- Listen closely to the student’s problem before making the referral
- Assure student of confidentiality
- Explain why you are referring the student rather than trying to help the student yourself
- Provide a description of the resource and its purpose
