No adviser knows all the answers to students’ questions and what kinds of support are available that address their issues. Hence it is important to utilize [campus resources](https://aas.hku.hk/campus-res/ "click here for more details about campus resources") in supporting students. Make use of the rapport that you have built with your advisees and make referrals as needed.\

Before Referral

- Listen closely to the student’s problem before making the referral
- Assure student of confidentiality
- Explain why you are referring the student rather than trying to help the student yourself
- Provide a description of the resource and its purpose
