The nature of the interaction between the wildlife and domestic animal hosts, the pathogen and the environment, with emphasis on the risk to human epidemiology is also described. Antibiotic resistant microbes will be discussed. Worked examples of zoonotic diseases will include Covid-19, badgers and tuberculosis, and wildfowl and influenza. The potential of wildlife to act as a reservoir for human diseases i.e. zoonoses, will be discussed. Finally, the evolution of the One Health framework to include management of biodiversity for the benefit of animal and public health will also be outlined.
