LIFE AT RICE
Our Community
The Culture of Care at Rice
The community at Rice is shaped by a culture of care, reflecting an emphasis on collaboration, mutual support, and empathy over competition. Here, students and staff look for ways to extend help to others, creating a mutually collaborative and trusting environment. This isn’t just about organized volunteering or service projects (though these exist); it’s about creating a campus community where people naturally look out for one another’s academic, social, and emotional needs and invest in shared success.
It can sometimes be a challenge for undergraduate students to find a balance between their rigorous academic schedules, social lives and extracurricular activities. Abhishek, a senior studying Neuroscience and Statistics, shares some strategies that have helped him juggle it all at Rice.
#Academics, #CampusLife - Building Community and Embracing Culture
Bela is an international student from Abu Dhabi studying Political Science. To feel more connected to her Desi heritage, Bela decided to join the Rice South Asian Society during her freshman year. Here, she shares how cultural groups at Rice can really help students thrive!
#CampusLife, #StudentGroups - Student-Led Health Initiatives
Rice students, whether through research or community service, strive to embody the values of innovation and care by prioritizing the health and wellbeing of their fellow students. Student-led health initiatives are a pivotal part of the university’s efforts to encourage students to learn beyond the classroom. Take a look below at just a few of the student-led health initiatives that are embedded in Rice’s Culture of Care.

ENGAGING WITH OUR COMMUNITY
We are more than curious thinkers - we are students that make a difference. Venturing into our community, applying our skills outside of the classroom, facilitating real change - that’s a key philosophy of the Rice experience.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
A resource available to all undergraduate students at Rice, the Center for Civic Leadership (CCL) builds leadership knowledge through a combination of learning, acting, and creating change. Additionally, the center also hosts leadership courses and international fellowships to create opportunities for political engagement and so much more.
