First Horizons brings together twelve short documentary works by emerging filmmakers from UChicago’s Cinema and Media Studies course, Documentary Production 1. From lyrical portraits and archival memories to personal stories and formal experiments, each of these films reflects a distinct voice and approach, collectively offering a vibrant snapshot of documentary practice from young makers. These works are curious, searching, and attentive to the textures of everyday life. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the student filmmakers, inviting audiences into a conversation about their personal approach, creative process, and the storytelling choices behind each film.
