## INCOMING - Students

### Studying at the TUD

**Find out what students say about studying and living in Dresden in this video**: [Why Students and Tourists Love Dresden](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KSjGkcUJEg).

[© Crispen-Iven Mokry](https://tu-dresden.de/kooperation/ressourcen/bilder/akademisches-auslandsamt/Lars-Plougmann_flickr.jpg/@@images/be06c56e-cca0-48e8-9498-e6638ecfcdbd.jpeg "Zoom")

### Erasmus+ scholarship amounts

In the Erasmus+ worldwide exchange program, students from our Erasmus+ [partner universities](https://tu-dresden.de/studium/im-studium/ressourcen/dateien/akademisches-auslandsamt/erasmus/KA171-Partnerhochschulen-2024-aktualisiert.pdf) can be funded for a study stay of between **2 and 6 months at TU Dresden**. The Erasmus+ scholarship includes a residence allowance of **900 € per month** and a **travel allowance**, which is calculated according to the distance between the place of origin and Dresden. A subsidy is possible for environmentally friendly travel (see below for information and distance calculator). In addition, students with fewer opportunities can apply for a monthly top-up of €250.

[Top-ups](#)

In addition to the monthly allowance, students can apply for social top-ups. The social top-ups cannot be combined with each other.

### Social Top-up: Students with child

If you take your child/children abroad, you are entitled to an additional lump sum of 250 € per month.

You submit the request after application and placement by uploading a [Declaration on Honor](https://tu-dresden.de/studium/im-studium/ressourcen/dateien/akademisches-auslandsamt/erasmus/ehrenwoertliche-erklaerun-top-up) and supporting documents (copy of the birth certificate of the child/children; supporting documents proving that the child/children will be taken abroad (e.g. travel documents, proof of care on site)). Information on how to apply will be emailed to you in a timely manner.

### Social Top-up: Students with a disability or certified chronic disease

As a student with a certified degree of disability or with a certified chronic illness that results in additional financial needs abroad, you will receive an additional lump sum of 250 € per month.

You submit the request after application and placement by uploading a [Declaration on Honor](https://tu-dresden.de/studium/im-studium/ressourcen/dateien/akademisches-auslandsamt/erasmus/ehrenwoertliche-erklaerun-top-up) and supporting documents (proof of the disability or certificate of the chronic illness including declaration of the doctor that there is an additional financial need abroad). Information on how to apply will be emailed to you in a timely manner.

If particularly high costs are incurred during the stay abroad (e.g. for barrier-free accommodation or flight or for an accompanying person), you can alternatively submit a real cost application ([long application](https://eu.daad.de/infos-fuer-einzelpersonen/foerderung-fuer-studierende-und-graduierte/sonderfoerderung/de/51277-sonderfoerderung-fuer-studierende-mit-behinderung/#collapse100_29)). In this application, the costs incurred must be detailed and can then be reimbursed up to a maximum of 15.000 € per semester. The application must be submitted via the IO of the TUD at least 2 months before the start of the stay abroad.

### Social Top-up: First-generation students

As a first-generation student, you can apply for a monthly top-up of 250 € if no parent/relative has a degree from a university or college.

You submit the request after application and placement by uploading a [Declaration on Honor](https://tu-dresden.de/studium/im-studium/ressourcen/dateien/akademisches-auslandsamt/erasmus/ehrenwoertliche-erklaerun-top-up) and supporting documents (declaration on honor of the parents/relatives). Information on how to apply will be emailed to you in a timely manner.

### Social Top-up: Working students

As an employed student, you can apply for a monthly top-up of 250 €.

Prerequisites: The employment began at least six months before application or before the start of mobility abroad without interruption and ends at the latest with the start of the semester abroad. The activity can not be carried out during the stay abroad.

You submit the request after application and placement by uploading a [Declaration on Honor](https://tu-dresden.de/studium/im-studium/ressourcen/dateien/akademisches-auslandsamt/erasmus/ehrenwoertliche-erklaerun-top-up) and supporting documents (employer's certificate). Information on how to apply will be emailed to you in a timely manner.

[Travel Grant and Distance Calculator](#)

| Travel distance | Travel allowance | Travel allowance for green travel |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 500 - 1,999 km | 309 € | 417 € |
| 2,000 - 2,999 km | 395 € | 535 € |
| 3,000 - 3,999 km | 580 € | 785 € |
| 4,000 - 7,999 km | 1.188 € | - |
| 8,000 km and more | 1.735 € | - |

You can also reduce your ecological footprint in the ERASMUS program and apply for a grant for trips that mainly use low-emission, environmentally friendly and sustainable means of transport such as bus, train or carpooling. If the distance is over 4000km, you cannot apply for a green travel grant.

In addition, **up to 6 additional days of travel** can be funded if the duration of the trip is significantly extended due to sustainable travel.

You submit the application after applying and being allocated a place by means of a declaration on your honor. Proof of the use of sustainable means of transport must only be submitted with the final documents after the end of the stay. You will receive information on this by email in good time.

### Application process

After you have discussed your study plan and the period of your stay at TUD with the coordinator at your home university and at TUD, please start submitting the necessary documents to the International Office **at least 4 months before you travel to Dresden** .

The **nomination deadline** for stays in the summer semester (start of studies April 1) is January 15, for the winter semester (start of studies October 1) is June 15.

In the **Erasmus+ Mobile App** you will find a lot of information about the Erasmus program, for example a guide that leads you through the entire mobility process, tips and stories as well as information about ERASMUS events. The app is available to download from the [Google Playstore](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.euf.project.erasmus) and [Apple App Store](https://apps.apple.com/de/app/erasmus/id1234624026).

Are you planning an **internship** at TU Dresden? Then [Leonardo Saxony](https://www.leo.tu-dresden.de/) is at your side.

### Payment of the Erasmus+ scholarship

Please note that you will receive your Erasmus grant in 2 installments upon your arrival in Germany. Therefore, you are responsible for organizing and booking your flights, accommodation, visa and insurance in advance. If these arrangements are an insurmountable obstacle in planning and organizing your Erasmus+ stay, please inform the International Office and your academic coordinators at your home university and TU Dresden in order to find an individual solution together.

The scholarship will only be transferred to bank accounts with a European IBAN. There are therefore two options:

- Opening a bank account at a German bank or savings bank after your arrival in Dresden.

To open a bank account in Dresden you will need

- Passport or identity card
- Confirmation of registration from the residents' registration office
- Letter of admission to study or student ID card

02. opening an online account (this can be done before your arrival in Germany)

**The first installment of the scholarship (70 %) is usually paid within 3 weeks after your appointment at the International Office or after opening a German bank account on site. It is therefore strongly recommended that every scholarship holder arrives in Dresden with at least the amount required for the first month's expenses (including accommodation).**

### To Dos

[Before departure](#)

After selection by the academic supervisor of the corresponding ERASMUS+ partnership on the part of the TUD and after nomination at the partner institution, you will receive all necessary information on ERASMUS funding from the International Office.

- Have your Learning Agreement signed by the academic supervisor at TUD and the academic supervisor at the partner institution. Upload it via your workflow in Mobility Online.
- Check whether you are entitled to a Social Top-Up (see box "Top-Ups") and fill out the corresponding Declaration on Honor if necessary. Send the document by e-mail to [.](mailto:)
- You will then find the ERASMUS Grant Agreement in your mailbox (semester address) - please sign it and return the original by post! In this agreement you will also find the amount of your grant.
- Upload your TUD enrollment certificate for the winter semester in the mobility portal (if you want to receive ERASMUS funding for a stay abroad, you must still be enrolled at the TUD, regardless of whether you are on a leave of absence or in a study semester).

**Once the above requirements have been met, you will receive 70% of your total ERASMUS funding (1st installment) before the start of your stay abroad.**

[After arrival at the partner university](#)

- If there are any changes to the courses on offer or to your course selection, you should create an [updated Learning Agreement](https://tu-dresden.de/studium/im-studium/ressourcen/dateien/akademisches-auslandsamt/erasmus/Learning-Agreement-During-the-mobility.docx) within the first few weeks of starting your studies, have it signed and upload it to Mobility Online.
- If you particularly like your stay abroad and would like to extend it, contact both your host university and the partnership coordinator of your faculty at TUD in good time and inform the International Office at least 30 days before the end of your planned stay.
- If you have to shorten your planned stay, inform the host university and the IO of the TUD in good time before departure and follow the instructions regarding proof of the ERASMUS stay.

[After the Erasmus+ stay](#)

Too bad, your time abroad is already over, but you would at least like to receive the second installment of the ERASMUS grant. To do this, submit the **EUSurvey online survey** (you will receive an invitation by email) and upload the following **documents** to the mobility portal no later than 30 days after the planned end of your stay:

- a certificate of [attendance](https://tu-dresden.de/studium/im-studium/ressourcen/dateien/akademisches-auslandsamt/erasmus/sm_certification.doc) from the host university: ["Confirmation of Attendance"](https://tu-dresden.de/studium/im-studium/ressourcen/dateien/akademisches-auslandsamt/erasmus/sm_certification.doc)
- the certificate of enrollment from TU Dresden for the period of the stay abroad (if not already uploaded to the portal at an earlier date)
- [Experience report](https://tu-dresden.de/studium/im-studium/auslandsaufenthalt/erfahrungsberichte) on the studies at the host university
- Copy of the academic achievements ("Transcript of Records" - [Learning Agreement template Transcript of Records](https://tu-dresden.de/studium/im-studium/ressourcen/dateien/akademisches-auslandsamt/erasmus/Learning-Agreement-Table-D.docx)), can also be submitted after the 30-day deadline
- Proof of recognition[(Learning Agreement Template Recognition](https://tu-dresden.de/studium/im-studium/ressourcen/dateien/akademisches-auslandsamt/erasmus/Learning-Agreement-Table-E.docx): Recognition outcomes), can be submitted after the 30-day deadline

**The second installment of the ERASMUS grant will be transferred immediately after the end of your stay abroad if you have uploaded the above-mentioned documents to the mobility portal.** Please note that you will only receive funding for the period of stay certified in the Confirmation of Attendance and contractually agreed in the funding agreement. If the period is shortened, the funding amount will be reduced and the second installment will be adjusted accordingly. Any excess funding received must be repaid upon request.

[Application Process/Documents BEFORE Mobility](#)

After you have discussed the content and period of your teaching/training stay at the TUD with the coordinator at your home university and at the TUD, please complete your registration in the Mobility Online Portal. You can access the registration form via the following link: [Mobility Online](https://www.service4mobility.com/europe/BewerbungServlet?identifier=DRESDEN02&kz_bew_pers=L&kz_bew_art=IN&aust_prog=ERASMUSSTWW&sprache=en)

Work through your workflow in the Mobility Online Portal. The following documents are required for the application:

- Scan of the identity document as a PDF
- Completed and fully signed Mobility Agreement (template is also available for download in the Mobility Online workflow)

The International Office of TU Dresden will then send you the**Grant Agreement** with the approved funding for signature.

[Documents After Mobility](#)

At the end of the mobility, you will be asked via e-mail (please check your spam folder) to complete and send back the **EU Online Survey** within 30 days.

Please also send the **[Confirmation of Teaching](https://tu-dresden.de/kooperation/ressourcen/dateien/akademisches-auslandsamt/erasmus_plus/formulare/6-STA-Bestaetigung.doc)** / **[Confirmation of Training](https://tu-dresden.de/kooperation/ressourcen/dateien/akademisches-auslandsamt/erasmus_plus/formulare/STT_Confirm.docx)** to TUD International Office.
