Bio-Data Science and Physics-Informed AI
Data-analysis and computational modeling play a fundamental role in linking theory and experiment. They help to generate testable hypotheses, interpret experimental data, study nonlinear models and are essential for testing the adequacy of physical theories. We envision novel computational methods, often based on AI algorithms, that are required to extract hidden patterns from data in the non-equilibrium, nonlinear, and multiscale systems studied at PoL.
Our aim will be to develop novel data analysis, machine learning, and scientific computing methods, with a focus on algorithmic innovations designed from the ground up, to cope with the complexity of living systems. We will integrate theory-driven numerical simulations with data-driven inference, resulting in physics-informed bio-data science. The mathematical foundations of topological data analysis will also be expanded, and used to understand these systems.
