First year applicants submitting the Common App should use the Other Recommender option to invite a recommender who is not affiliated with their school. [More information can be found here](https://appsupport.commonapp.org/applicantsupport/s/article/How-do-I-assign-an-Other-Recommender).

First year applicants submitting the Coalition Application should use the General Recommendation option to invite a recommender who is not affiliated with their school.

The methods listed above are the preferred submission methods and will ensure that the materials are added to an applicant's file in the most expeditious manner.

We will accept letters via email to [documents@admissions.upenn.edu](mailto:documents@admissions.upenn.edu) but they must be sent to us directly from the letter author.

We will also accept letters via postal mail to:

**Letters sent via postal mail should be sealed with the signature of the author across the envelope flap.**
