Transfer applicants submitting the Common Application can select the recommendation type that is most appropriate for the recommender (Academic, Personal, Professional). Transfer applicants submitting the Coalition Application can select the recommendation type that is most appropriate for the recommender (Academic or General).

The methods listed above are the preferred submission methods and will ensure that the materials are added to an applicant's file in the most expeditious manner.

We will accept letters via email to [documents@admissions.upenn.edu](mailto:documents@admissions.upenn.edu) but they must be sent to us directly from the letter author. Applicants requesting a teacher recommendation from an instructor no longer affiliated with their school should have their teacher email their recommendation.

We will also accept letters via postal mail to:

**Letters sent via postal mail should be sealed with the signature of the author across the envelope flap.**
