## About us

This group encourages people to think critically about the scholarship of teaching and learning to ensure that our practice is on the cutting-edge of the discipline. We focus on developmental projects which support and underpin teaching and learning within the Oxford School of Nursing and Midwifery. Current projects include supporting staff with academic activities, such as module leadership and investigating the teaching of and use of paradigms in nursing research.

We are interested in working with academic staff who would like to pursue a project which supports teaching and learning. Any member of staff with ideas for the development for a project should contact Helen Aveyard or Marion Waite.

## Ongoing seminar series: Pathway to nursing and midwifery scholarship

**How to read a paper**

- These seminars are focused on a research paper which is distributed to participants a few days beforehand. The paper, and the wider issues addressed in the paper are discussed within the seminar. All colleagues are welcome. [Contact Dr Helen Aveyard for details](https://www.brookes.ac.uk/research/units/hls/groups/haveyard@brookes.ac.uk).

**Presenting an abstract for peer-review**

- Once a month a member of OSNM will be supported to present an abstract of their writing in progress to peers for feedback. This is a good opportunity for writers at all levels including the development of skills for scholarly peer-reviewing. [Contact Marion Waite for details](https://www.brookes.ac.uk/research/units/hls/groups/mwaite@brookes.ac.uk).

**Academic research writing**

- The academic research writing group meets bi-monthly for goal setting and protected time to write. The group is open to writers at all levels and is a great opportunity to work on papers for publication, thesis chapters and conference papers. [Contact Marion Waite for details](https://www.brookes.ac.uk/research/units/hls/groups/mwaite@brookes.ac.uk).
