Application

Application procedure

In order to apply for an Erasmus degree program at the University of Bonn, you have to complete the following steps:

Winter semester: May 1\ *Summer semester: November 1*

You will receive further information about your Erasmus stay in Bonn by email from your Erasmus+ Departmental Coordinator and the International Office about four to six weeks after the application deadline mentioned above.

Please note that we can only accept applications and nominations from students at partner universities via our Mobility-Online portal. Please do not send your nomination confirmation or application to the University of Bonn by email.

Countries and universities that are not listed in Mobility-Online will generally not have an Erasmus exchange agreement with the University of Bonn. Rather than entering the name of an ineligible university, please contact the corresponding Erasmus+ Departmental Coordinator if you are in any doubt.

Participation requirements

  1. Enrollment at a partner university: You must be enrolled at one of the partner universities of the University of Bonn in the European Union, the United Kingdom, Norway, Switzerland or Turkey.
  2. Nomination by your home university: You must be officially nominated for the Erasmus+ program by your home university.
  3. Language requirements: The relevant language requirements must be met. Bachelor's degree programs: In many Bachelor's degree programs, a German level of at least B1 is generally required. Master's degree programs: In Master's degree programs, an English level of at least B2 is generally required. Information on the language requirements for the individual subjects can be found on the Erasmus+ Departmental Coordination4 page.

Organization of studies: course selection and Learning Agreement

You will coordinate your courses with the Erasmus coordinator at your home university and with your Erasmus+ Departmental Coordinator in Bonn via the Learning Agreement. As soon as the relevant Erasmus+ Departmental Coordinator at the University of Bonn has chosen you as an Erasmus student, you will receive further information about selecting your courses.

The courses offered at the University of Bonn can be found in the BASIS electronic course catalogue. Further information on courses, modules and ECTS credits is given in the module handbook on the web pages of your department at the University of Bonn and via your Erasmus+ Departmental Coordinator. The Erasmus+ Departmental Coordinator will also issue the Transcript of Records at the end of your time studying in Bonn.

Learning German

You can benefit from a wide range of opportunities to improve your German skills before and during your stay:

Once you have been admitted to the University of Bonn, you will receive information from the International Office on how to register for the courses.

Please note that the German courses are an optional addition to your studies and places are limited, meaning that you will not be guaranteed a place in a course.

Preparation of your stay

If you have successfully applied for Erasmus studies at the University of Bonn, you will find important information on the following pages and in the instructions that will help you prepare for your stay in Bonn and make your first few days easier. Do not miss the Welcome Days for international students, which will help you get into your studies and life in Bonn.

Students who are impaired in their studies due to a disability or a chronic-somatic, neurodivergent, mental illness and/or a partial performance disorder can find counselling and support from the Representative for Students with Disabilities or Chronic Illnesses.

Welcome Days

The Welcome Days offer new international students and doctoral candidates the opportunity to learn about the most important topics such as enrollment, registering with the local authorities and opening a bank account. Getting to know international and German students and doctoral candidates during leisure activities is another benefit of the Welcome Days.
