With around **11,000 employees**, including approximately **7,700 academic staff**, the University of Vienna is **Austria’s largest research institution** and at the same time the country’s **largest educational institution**. 

Its **20 faculties and centres**are home to approximately **85,000 students from Austria and around the world**. With **185 degree programmes**, the University offers the **most diverse range of studies** in Austria. 

**Founded** in the year **1365**, the **Alma Mater Rudolphina Vindobonensis** celebrated its **650th anniversary**in 2015 with a wide range of festive events. In **autumn 2022** the University of Vienna had the pleasure of congratulating the **physicist Anton Zeilinger**, for many years a professor at the University, after he was awarded the **Nobel Prize in Physics**. In international higher education and subject-specific rankings, the University of Vienna ranks in the [**top four per cent**](https://www.univie.ac.at/en/about-us/university-rankings)of all universities **worldwide**.
