Funding and help for UK students
If you’re from England, you may be eligible for:
- a Postgraduate Master’s Loan, where you can apply for up to £12,858 for your course
- government funding and loans if you want to study a social work course or teacher training course (such as a PGCE)
- the Disabled Students Allowance to help you cover some extra costs. Find out more about funding sources if you have a disability.
You repay your Postgraduate Master’s Loan at the same time as other student loans you may have.
If you normally live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, postgraduate funding is different so check with your local student funding agency.
You may also be able to apply for a Masters scholarship, which can include some fees and living costs funding.
You can also look for a part-time or student job to help fund your Masters.

Funding for European students
You may be eligible for:
- a Postgraduate Master’s Loan, where you can apply for up to £12,167 for your course
- a Masters scholarship, which can include fees and living costs funding
- funding through DAAD if you are from Germany
- funding through Lanekassen if you are from Norway.
You repay your Postgraduate Master’s Loan at the same time as other student loans you may have.
You can also look for a part-time or student job to help fund your Masters.

You can apply for a Sussex scholarship, including our country scholarships, or funding through the following organisations:

- Commonwealth Scholarship Commission
- Rotary Global Grant Scholarship.

You can also look for a part-time or student job to help fund your Masters but there are restrictions on how many hours you can work each week if you have a visa.
