Display screen equipment (DSE) toolkit

This toolkit contains information to help managers and users minimise the risks associated with the use of display screen equipment as required by Arrangements Chapter 34. The information applies to equipment found in both offices and other workplaces, e.g. laboratories.

DSE users need to carry out an assessment of their workstation(s). The assessment is usually carried out online and administered locally and details of how to do this is provided via School/Local Safety Advisors or DSE Assessors.

A new online assessment form has been developed in Microsoft Forms, though a paper form (HSE's Checklist) is still used in some areas. Instructions for DSE Assessors on how to set up the Microsoft Form for your assessments is provided in the Toolkit Documents.

There is guidance for line managers, DSE assessors and safety advisors on DSE assessment and provision of DSE related equipment in this toolkit.

The Health and Safety Executive also provide advice on good computer or laptop workstation ergonomic set-up.

Occupational Health provide information about eye tests for DSE users.
