Electrical network frequency analysis (ENF) can extract a surprising amount of information from the noise emitted by many of our electronics. ENF analysts can take a recording of that hum, and tell you the time and date the recording was made. Nasir Memon, vice dean for student and academic affairs and member of the Center for Cybersecurity at NYU Tandon, noted that, in his endeavors to create an ENF analyzing technology, he has to be mindful of its implications on privacy.
