The University of Manchester is one of Britain’s most famous civic universities, with a rich heritage of cutting-edge innovation and enterprise stretching back more than 180 years. Many major advances of the 20th century began at the University, such as splitting the atom and the development of the world’s first modern computer. Notable graduates include actor Benedict Cumberbatch, and TV physicist Brian Cox.
Alliance Manchester Business School is the largest campus-based business school in the UK. Ranked 2nd in the UK for research power, the School is influential in all areas of business and management. MBS has the “Triple Crown” accreditation from AACSB International, AMBA and EQUIS.
Manchester is a big city with a compact and friendly centre. It has been named one of the world’s top 10 travel destinations, and the UK’s most liveable city.

Full-time study load
60 credits at Manchester is equivalent to 8 UQ units.
Host university requirements
GPA
You will need a minimum cumulative GPA of 5.0 to study at the University of Manchester (AMBS or general)
Language
Non-Native English Speakers need to provide proof of language ability, the minimum requirement being IELTS 6.0 overall.
Some faculties require a higher score.
Study Options\ You must choose between enrolment at Manchester general or the Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS). Students who are allocated to the AMBS must take all of their courses from within this school. Students allocated to Manchester general cannot choose courses from within the AMBS.
Semester Restrictions\ Students wishing to study for a full year must commence their exchange in UQ Semester 2.
Other Restrictions\ Students studying at Manchester in UQ's Semester 2 (September–January) will have their provisional (interim) transcripts emailed to the Global Experiences team the following March. Official transcripts will be posted to the Global Experiences team in August for credit transfer purposes. It should be noted that if you go on exchange to Manchester in your final year, it will delay your UQ graduation.

- Course codes ending with '0' are Full Year courses.
- Course codes ending with '1' are Semester 1 courses.

Ensure you search for the correct level of courses - see "Additional Academic Information" below for more detail.
Crosscheck the courses you found in the host course catalogue with the Credit Precedent Database to see if UQ credit has previously been granted. The database should be used as a general guide only. Few courses from each host will be in the database and many course precedents in the database may have expired. Note, the credit precedent database does not replace the host course catalogue. If a course is not listed in the CPD, you can still ask for it to be assessed on your study plan.

Accommodation
Students coming for one semester only are not guaranteed a Manchester accommodation room, but under normal circumstances are usually allocated one.
Cost of living
Compared with other cities, particularly those in the south of the UK, Manchester is an affordable place to live and very popular with students on a budget. The university provides an estimated cost of living for students in Manchester.

Financial support
A range of funding for student exchange including scholarships, grants and loans are available to UQ students.
Students studying at the University of Manchester can apply for a scholarship through BUTEX. BUTEX offers a number of £500 scholarships to students studying on exchange at member institutions.
Insurance
Students approved to participate in a Semester-based Exchange are automatically covered by UQ’s Travel Insurance for the country of their host university only.

If you plan to travel outside of your host country, you should purchase additional insurance.
Manchester has guidance information for suitable health care for international students. Students whose courses last at least six months are entitled to free health care under the UK’s National Health Service (NHS).

Organise your visa
It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visa for the country where you will be studying. As the Global Experiences team is not a visa-issuing authority we cannot provide visa advice.

Travel risk levels
The University of Queensland cannot and does not allow students to travel to any country with a risk level of 3 (Reconsider your need to travel) or above, as assessed by the Australian Government.
If a country's risk level changes to 3 or above, experiences to that country are suspended until the risk level improves.
