We believe that when studying society and culture, drawing on multiple academic disciplines offers insights you just can't get within the confines of a single discipline. While the field can include the study of language, literature, and culture, the primary emphasis here is on the social sciences and history. We've designed it to be flexible, so you can tailor it for a broad introduction to the region as a whole, or for a deeper inquiry into a particular country or theme.
What Students Say
- "More than anything else I studied at Harvard, REECA taught me how to understand the often-contentious processes of intercultural exchange and competition that characterize our globalizing world."

- "I love the individualized attention and the interdisciplinary approach."
Requirements

- 3 of the 5 courses must be in the social sciences or history
- Study abroad and language study are encouraged, and both can earn you credit toward the field
