We believe that when studying society and culture, drawing on multiple academic disciplines offers insights you just can't get within the confines of a single discipline. While the field can include the study of language, literature, and culture, the primary emphasis here is on the social sciences and history. We've designed it to be flexible, so you can tailor it for a broad introduction to the region as a whole, or for a deeper inquiry into a particular country or theme.

## What Students Say

- "More than anything else I studied at Harvard, REECA taught me how to understand the often-contentious processes of intercultural exchange and competition that characterize our globalizing world."
- "Pursuing REECA has opened countless doors for me in the fields of national security, international law, and international relations.\
My REECA background has set me apart on numerous occasions."
- "I love the individualized attention and the interdisciplinary approach."

## Requirements

- 5 approved REECA courses in at least 2 different disciplines (enter "reeca" in my.harvard for current offerings)
- 3 of the 5 courses must be in the social sciences or history
- Study abroad and language study are encouraged, and both can earn you credit toward the field
- Courses for the field must be taken for a letter grade and completed with a grade of B- or higher (Freshman Seminars may count with a grade of SAT)
