The new house rules and code of conduct were created to maintain a safe and respectful environment. The rules ensure that freedom of expression and the right to protest are respected, while protecting a socially safe study and work environment for all.
## Main goals
- Facilitating a socially safe environment where everyone feels welcome.
- Ensuring the right to protest.
- Protecting safety and order on campus.
## What do the house rules entail?
The house rules are designed to facilitate a pleasant studying and working environment and space for discussions and debates, while respecting everyone's fundamental rights. They apply on or in university grounds/buildings of the UvA. The renewed house and demonstration rules are ready in draft form and have been sent to the The renewed house and demonstration rules are ready in draft form and have been sent to the Central Works Council and the Central Student Council for approval. Until the COR and CSR have approved the new house rules, the [old rules](https://www.uva.nl/binaries/content/assets/uva/en/about-the-uva/uva-framework-house-rules-and-code-of-conduct_4.12.2017.pdf) still apply.
- **General rules of conduct:** Everyone is expected to treat others with respect and contribute to a socially safe environment, states the Code of Conduct. Inappropriate behaviour is not accepted and everyone is expected to call others to account.
- **Use of buildings:** The buildings and facilities of the UvA are open for education, research and activities that contribute to this. Under certain conditions, it is possible to organise events and make use of available rooms, provided that they are booked in good time. Staying overnight in the buildings or connected areas/grounds is not allowed.
- **Dissemination of information:** Students and staff may share information on special notice boards through flyers, posters or other means. In other places, posters/information materials will be removed. Digital alternatives are encouraged to promote sustainability.
- **Clean, tidy, fire-safe:** Buildings and grounds of the UvA should be left clean and tidy, bicycles should be placed in the racks, open fires are not allowed, smoking is not allowed, and escape routes must remain clear. Together we ensure a physically pleasant and safe environment.
- **Proof of identity:**Identification may be requested, for example to prevent unauthorised use.
