Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - Professional School of Education
In coordination with other Berlin universities, the Professional School of Education (PSE) at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin has developed a mentoring qualification concept designed to prepare mentor-teachers to support teacher-students during their practical semester at schools. This gives us an opportunity for exchange with mentors even before the practical phase has begun. We hope to work together with them to develop a common idea of the best way for us to support student development. Our discussions with mentors will cover the following themes:
- Student coaching through orientation discussions and teaching meetings
- Didactic study content (skill level and common difficulties experienced by students)
- Handling heterogeneity (language training in specialist teaching, inclusive specialist teaching)
The plan is for mentoring during the practical semester to be configured as follows: At the beginning and end of the placement and as part of an interim assessment, the mentors will hold orientation discussions with students to jointly formulate and reflect upon objectives for professional development during the practical semester. During the teaching meeting they will provide students with support, in particular by applying and reflecting upon didactic study content in practical situations.
